FAQs

What size excavator to run mulcher?

Generally, mulching heads are categorized according to different weight classes of excavators. For instance, one series may be designed for excavators weighing from10,000 to 20,000 pounds, while the next series will work for excavators ranging from 18,000 to 36,000 pounds.

Can you put a mulcher on a mini excavator?

Yes, you can put a mulcher on a mini excavator—as long as the mulcher is matched to the machine’s size, hydraulic flow, and lifting capacity. Many compact drum mulchers are specifically designed for 3–6 ton mini excavators, offering enough power for brush clearing, small-tree mulching, and vegetation control without overloading the carrier.

Attachments like the Forax XD36 Extreme Duty Mulcher are built for mini excavators and provide professional mulching performance in tight or hard-to-reach areas where larger machines cannot operate.

What excavator attachment is best for forestry?

The best excavator attachment for forestry work depends on the type of vegetation you need to clear. For most land-clearing, trail building, and vegetation management projects, a drum mulcher is considered the top choice because it can shred brush, saplings, and small trees quickly while leaving finely processed mulch behind. Drum mulchers offer the perfect balance of cutting power, precision, and efficiency—especially in dense or wooded terrain.
